Tempered glass — also known as toughened glass — is a high-performance safety glass manufactured through controlled thermal treatment. Heating float glass to approximately 650°C followed by rapid air cooling creates balanced internal compressive stress, delivering 3–5 times the bending strength of annealed glass. When broken, it shatters into small, blunt granular pieces rather than sharp shards, significantly reducing injury risk.

What Is Tempered Glass?

Tempered glass is produced from premium float glass through a strict heat-treating process. The glass is heated to around 650°C for uniform softening, then rapidly cooled by high-pressure air. This creates compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress in the core — the mechanism behind its superior mechanical performance.
